Hello! I am Mary Hannah Zhang Yeying Kennedy, a 25-year-old visual artist based in Seattle. My studio practice employs drawing and painting to explore human emotion, using the figure and face as the primary vehicles for expression. Influenced by my experiences as a Chinese adoptee, my work delves into themes of Asian identity, isolation, suffering, and loss. Though I hope my work resonates with a broad audience, my primary goal is to amplify the voices of interracial adoptees and capture the complexity of their experiences in my work.
In my free time, I enjoy exploring my local garden, lurking in the library, traipsing around with friends, playing rugby, buying Sylvanian Family blind bags, watching 45-minute YouTube video essays (but retaining very little), following recipes rather poorly, and covering every surface with iconic stickers.
